What is the Aotearoa Inclusivity Matrix?
The Aotearoa Inclusivity Matrix is an evidence-based framework developed specifically for New Zealand workplaces that allows organisations to identify the maturity of their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices across seven components. It will provide a basis for workplaces to understand their current capabilities, identify areas for improvement and create a roadmap for transformation.
The seven components that form part of a strategic approach to DEI are leadership, diversity infrastructure, diverse recruitment, inclusive career development, bi-culturism, inclusive collaboration and social impact.
This framework was developed for the unique diversity and inclusion dynamics faced in workplaces in Aotearoa New Zealand. It will be supported by assessment tools that can be used to analyse the maturity of workplace practices across five levels, from starter to advanced, with the objective of understanding existing gaps and empowering leaders to decide where to direct their investment in DEI to provide the best return for their people and their business performance.

Complete the form below to download the Aotearoa Inclusivity Matrix framework and a guide to using it. This will give you an understanding of the seven components organisations must consider when taking a strategic approach to DEI and the indicators used to measure maturity levels.
Diversity Works New Zealand is developing tools to assess individual organisations against the framework. These will be ready to use in the last quarter of 2021. There will be two different types of assessments. The first will be completed by one person on behalf of the organisation and will provide an inventory of current practices. The second assessment will be completed by employees to determine their perceptions of DEI within the workplace. This will provide a view that reflects the perceptions of both employer and employees that can be used to decide the organisation’s level of maturity per component.
