The third workshop in the Hauora Ako series launches in June, with participants learning to draw on the wisdom of the past and teachings steeped in whakapapa to guide their path to wellbeing.
The Mana Motuhake (Identity, Autonomy, Independence) session will be facilitated by Tuihana Ohia, founder of T Kaupapa and a thought-leader in navigating wellbeing from a te ao Māori perspective.
It will build on the work learners have done in either of the first two workshops in the series, Te Whare Tapa Au or Te Whare Tapa Mahi.
“Te Whare Tapa Au lays the foundation for the Mana Motuhake, to your self-determination, your ‘authority’ of your wellbeing or hauora. It is a beginning. We build on this workshop with more intention with Mana Motuhake,” Tuihana says.
However, those who have completed the Tapa Mahi course, which focuses on enhancing organisational wellbeing practices, can also attend the follow-up session.
“Individually, you will consolidate your wellbeing plan. From an organisation standpoint, you will look at what is unique to your organisation and the people within that determines the wellbeing from a tatou tatou, all of us, point of view.”
This workshop will provide learners with some practical, useful, and easy-to-access tools for themselves, their workplace and their whānau. “You will walk away the self determination of your wellbeing and what it looks and feels like.”
Tuihana says that looking at wellbeing through a te ao Māori lens can be a game changer because it works from a space of interconnectedness, not disconnectedness.
“It works with us to understand the holistic nature of wellbeing, and it utilises an ancient source of knowledge and learning, steeped in whakapapa.”
The first Mana Motuhake course is scheduled for Tuesday, 17 June. Find out more and book your place in the event listing.
