Neurodiversity the new brain gain?

Is your organisation guilty of asking a fish to climb a tree?

There is stark evidence that workplaces are not doing enough for neurodiverse inclusion - international estimates suggest that around 15 to 20 per cent of the population have a neurodiverse condition, yet only 12 per cent of respondents in the 2021 New Zealand Workplace Diversity Survey identified it as an important issue.

Furthermore, according to the International Labour Organisation, people with dyslexia specifically are five times more likely to be unemployed than those without dyslexia, suggesting there could be a gulf between employment practices and the needs of those who are neurodiverse.

Given that people that are neurodivergent have talents, perspectives and skills that can be asset in many work environments, organisations not supporting this group to reach their full potential risk missing out on measurable benefits, including better productivity, more innovation and a more inclusive workplace culture.

Diversity Sessions are interactive online conversations where we can explore inclusion issues impacting our organisations and our people.

Join us for this session, where speakers will share their lived experience and discuss how neurodiverse people are excluded in the workplace, the impact that this has and how organisations can move towards inclusion, innovation and better productivity.

Speakers include:

  • Callum McKirdy
  • Rich Rowley
  • Kate Bruce
